After earning Rs 20.21 crore on its first day to become the biggest opener of Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s career, Kabir Singh continues its glorious run at the box office. If early estimates are anything to go by, the film raked in around Rs 25 crore on Sunday, taking its total collection so far to around Rs 67.92 crore.
Kabir Singh, which released in 3123 screens across the country, is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy. Just like the original, it is unstoppable. As of now, Kabir Singh is the fourth biggest Hindi opener at the box office this year, and the only one to not release on a holiday.
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also helmed the original, Kabir Singh revolves around a surgeon who goes on a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol after he cannot marry the love of his life. The film also stars Soham Majumdar, Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi and Kamini Kaushal in pivotal roles.
Shahid and Kiara took to social media to thank the audience for the overwhelming response to Kabir Singh.
While the audience has been flocking to the theatres to watch Kabir Singh, critics have slammed it for its toxic masculinity. India Today reviewer Ananya Bhattacharya gave it 1.5 stars out of 5and wrote, “Misogyny is not cool. Neither is Kabir Singh.”
